Baum
Hedlund is recognized as a preeminent plaintiff firm that
tries or settles serious personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits across
the nation. The firm was established more than 30 years ago and has offices
in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. We have represented victims of personal
injury and wrongful death for over 20 years. Our attorneys have tried
well over 200 cases in their careers.
Our firm has been handling aviation cases since the Arrow Air crash in Gander,
Newfoundland on December 12, 1985. Since then, we have litigated some of
the nation's most highly-publicized cases including over 60 commercial aviation
incidents including 50 airline disasters. We have also resolved over 125
general aviation aircraft accidents involving small planes, helicopters
and hot air balloons. Our attorneys have actively served on many of the
Plaintiffs' Steering Committees which oversee the consolidated litigation
in airline accident cases.
Such litigation involves complex evidence and
choice of law issues which have been routinely handled by the firm in both
state and federal courts. Many of our attorneys have delivered Continuing
Legal Education accredited lectures on the complexities of mass tort litigation.
Baum Hedlund is accustomed to handling the simplest and most complex cases:
we are here to solve legal problems caused by defective conduct.
Our efforts
to improve aviation safety through trials, appeals and hundreds of litigated
cases has encompassed aircraft design, flight crew conduct, and air traffic
control. We regard litigation as an incentive to improve aviation safety.
Baum Hedlund's attorneys came to the firm with varied backgrounds, offering
a unique combination of skills that are particularly useful for investigating
defective products and transportation safety.
Baum Hedlund's attorneys came to the firm with varied backgrounds, offering a unique combination of skills that are particularly useful for investigating defective products and transportation safety. Three of our attorneys have
pilot experience: Ronald L. M. Goldman, a Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate
and pilot, handled his first aviation case in 1969 representing air traffic
controllers to improve working conditions and reduce dangerously excessive
stress levels. He then litigated the 1972 British European Airways Trident
crash near Heathrow Airport that killed all 118 onboard. Throughout his
career Ron has litigated multiple small plane and commercial airline incidents.
Based on his experience Professor Goldman developed courses in Aviation
Accident Law at Pepperdine School of Law, where he taught as an adjunct
professor for 21 years. John Greaves is an airline-transport pilot and served
as a captain of a major airline. He has flown 10,000 + hours total flight
time since 1966; and Robert Guilford, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney,
has been a pilot since 1961 with a commercial and instrument rating since
1970. Bob owns and flies vintage fighter jets. He has held executive positions
in many aviation organizations throughout his career. In addition, prior
to joining Baum Hedlund, Paul Hedlund was a mechanical engineer and Clark
Aristei, a law professor.
Baum Hedlund's attorneys have the aviation experience
needed to solve the problems presented by accidents involving aircraft.
